The £18m refurbishment and retrofit of the Hall for Cornwall, Truro’s grade II listed former City Hall, included a new three-tiered, 1,352 capacity auditorium theatre, surrounding public entrances and backstage areas and a new café and restaurant area. We acted as Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors.

Hall for Cornwall accolades include Michelmores ‘Heritage Project of the Year 2023’, ‘Conservation and Regeneration Project of the Year’ Constructing Excellence, ‘Project of the Year’ and the ‘Chair’s Award for Design’ RTPI South West Awards, and a shortlisting in the prestigious Stage Awards as ‘Theatre Building of the Year’

The team committed to outreach and mentoring in local secondary schools and connecting with architecture students to assist on the project. Six construction apprentices worked on specialist packages during the build.

The retrofit has enabled a 15% reduction in energy consumption while increasing audience capacity by 30% and the project achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating through reuse and innovative solutions to energy efficiency.

Designed for inclusion without barriers to attendance or participation, the refurbishment improved access to Arts and Culture for the whole county and is predicted to generate £35m for the Cornish economy in five years.
