We have delivered all of the infrastructure and landside development for Pendennis Shipyard, one of the world’s leading superyacht refit and customer build facilities.

The works include: new construction halls, workshops, covered dockside facilities, reinstatement of dock gate abutments and caissons, 800-tonne travel hoist lift out berths, new slipways, a non-tidal wet basin, reinstatement of historic quay walls and refurbishment of historic sail lofts.

We have also overseen statutory approval, stakeholder management, funding applications, land negotiations and Harbour Revision orders.

Pendennis operates in waters that are designated a Special Area of Conversation. Our challenge was how to protect important seagrasses, which would be lost as a consequence of a proposed marine infrastructure development.

We led the project to deliver Europe’s first successful seagrass translocation and pilot study on sustainable mooring systems, working with multiple stakeholders including Southampton University Oceanography Centre and Natural England.

The plants were carefully removed by a dive team and transplanted into chain mooring scars in an existing seagrass bed in an adjacent estuary. Traditional chain-block moorings were replaced with “Seaflex” sustainable moorings, allowing the seagrass beds to recolonise the scars. The two-year study became an exemplar project for Natural England.
