This link enabled the trading of electricity between the UK and Norway increasing energy security and the adoption of renewable energy.
This project is at the UK end of the North Sea Link (NSL), the 1,400 MW interconnector links the power grids of the UK and Norway.
With a length of 720 km, the NSL became the world’s longest subsea power interconnector, making the project a new milestone in technology. We undertook the “fast track” procurement of the Blyth terminus of the North Sea Link.
The project created opportunities for the local employment during and after construction. The UK will export renewable energy when it is abundant and import Norwegian hydro power at periods of peak demand.
